Second week of September. Second blog tour.

Freine Writes is ecstatic to introduce you to another Filipina author, Ms. Addie Lynn Co, and her work entitled Hello.

What if The One actually walks up to you and even says hello, would you greet back or turn your back unknowingly that you have actually met? Would you know when you’ve actually met?

Serendipity is a funny thing that brings a tinge of bittersweet bliss to anyone who is fortunate to experience it. Hello is a trilogy that explores how serendipitous life can sometimes be.

Definitely, Maybe is a story of how fate plays with two people as they meet each decade hoping that maybe this time around, they can finally be together.

Almost Mismatch tells how two people so right for each other be so wrong and no matter how much they try to suppress their feelings, true love will not stop at anything. What is meant to be will be.

Finally, Dinner Date portrays how two people’s search for love could take them to different places and people only to lead them back to where they started.

The world is just like a huge maze that no matter what direction one walks to, there will always be one final destination. There seems to be an invisible string that is handcuffed to two people on each end and unsuspectingly pulls these two people destined for each other back together no matter how long it takes.

Are you an aspiring writer as well? Read Ms. Co’s tips on how to realize that dream starting today…

Writing tips I have for aspiring writers/authors:

  1. Try to manage your time. I have my permanent job and writing usually goes to my second priority so as much as possible, I try to write every night before I go to sleep giving myself at least an hour to write whatever comes to my mind and just reedit it later. Though it might seem very little time to give your mind to think, once I start with a sentence, everything else comes rushing in and before I know it, I have already written a lot. But of course, do not pressure yourself too much. Just let things flow and everything will come to you. You will just realize that you have finally finished your novella. The first step to reaching your goal as an author is to have at least the first complete draft. Something that you can show to publishers or something to work on as a project for self-publishing.
  2. Be creative and realistic at the same time. Every story needs a happy ending in general but not necessarily all. But each book differs with how the characters got their happy endings. And I believe that would be how the readers would be able to identify you among all the other authors out there. Make the ‘getting there’ remarkable to the readers and be creative with it. Something that other authors haven’t done. Being different is better than being overused or ‘gasgas’. But of course, the creativity should also be at a realistic level so that people would be able to relate or at least feel that this happy ending or ‘kilig’ moments could actually happen to them too. And the ending isn’t as far-fetched.
  3. Letting go and being proud of what you have finally created. Don’t dwell too much on trying to please everyone. Someone’s always bound not to like it no matter what. But what’s important is that you are satisfied with what you have created and proud to show it to the world. There are a lot of steps to the first stage of self-publishing. The first would be finishing writing the first draft, then move on to editing it for grammatical/ technical errors while maybe dreaming of how the book cover design will be. Create it yourself or have someone create the art for you while you format the manuscript according to what is needed because from what I learned, Smashwords and Kindle formats are different with each other plus the format for having the book printed on paper. I definitely went crazy with all the different formatting requirements. And when you finally have the book in your hand or the formatted soft copy ready for upload to Smashwords or Amazon Kindle, there’s no going back now. You’ve come the long way now, all that’s left to do is go all the way. Now that’s just the first half of the journey, the second half is marketing your book but that’s another story to tell. But what’s really important is to have your novella out there to the world. In no time, someone will discover it and take a chance on your novella. What I’m really trying to say is don’t wait anymore and just let it out there for the people to read. The main goal to begin with really is for you to be able to tell your story. Getting the appreciation it deserves is just a bonus.
  4. Have the passion and determination. Have the dream and set your mind into it. Just try and try until you succeed. Even if you fail, at least you can tell yourself that you tried and it just wasn’t meant for you. If you don’t try, you’ll never know if you would reach your dreams and always be wondering what if. Just be ready to accept whatever the end result will be may it be good or bad. Maybe it won’t be so bad after all.

She finished a degree in Communication Arts and really wanted to pursue a career in film making but due to high production costs of a film, she opted to tell her stories through her novels.
